Hills, Woods and Sixty Thousand Neighbors
Tree Service in Green Township covers the busiest stretch of Cincinnati's West Side. The township is the most populous in Hamilton County, with 60,424 residents in 2020 on 27.9 square miles, and its gently rolling hills sit above the Ohio River northwest of downtown. It includes the census-designated places of Bridgetown, Covedale, Dent, Mack, Monfort Heights and White Oak, wrapped around the city of Cheviot.
Despite that population, Green Township kept a lot of trees. As of 1990, 38% of its land was forested, 11% was farmland and just over half was urban. Many subdivisions were built into that forest, so backyards often end in a band of mature hardwoods, and some streets follow ridges with wooded ravines on either side. On many of these lots the safest route for wood is back up through the side yard to the street, and we plan the job around that path so lawns and beds take as little traffic as possible.
The wooded backyard problem
Trees at the back of a lot are the ones owners look at least and worry about most after a storm. Dead ash from emerald ash borer, which has spread through all of Ohio, are common in West Side woods. So are older oaks and maples with dead limbs, and trees undercut by small streams in the ravines. When a backyard tree leans toward the house or a neighbor's garage, it moves up the list. We assess the whole tree line, mark priorities and give you a written plan.
The county drop-off is right here
One of Hamilton County's three free yard trimmings drop-off sites is in the township: the west site at Oakdale Elementary School, 3850 Virginia Court, open Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon between March 21 and December 6. Branches must be bundled under 50 pounds, no thicker than 12 inches, and the program is for Hamilton County residents' own material only; commercial yard trimmings are not accepted. All of it is composted. It is a good option for your own pruning. When we do the work, chipping and hauling are included.
Township parks
Green Township operates six parks: Bicentennial, Blue Rock, Bosken, Kuliga, Veterans and West Fork. Several neighborhoods border them or other wooded public land. Trees on public land belong to their managers; if one overhangs your yard, you can usually prune to the line, but larger work should be coordinated.

A bit of history
The township was founded in 1809 and named for Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. Bridgetown even had its own airport, the Western Hills Airport, from 1929 to 1949.

Green Township Questions
Can I take branches to the Oakdale drop-off site myself?
Yes, if you live in Hamilton County and bring your own trimmings in a pickup or small trailer. Bundle brush under 50 pounds, keep branches under 12 inches thick, and don't bring lumber, wire or soil.
How do you remove a tree at the bottom of a ravine behind my house?
Usually by climbing and lowering pieces on ropes, then carrying or winching wood up the slope. If a tree is better left on the ground in the ravine, we'll tell you.
Is there a tree service near me in Dent or Monfort Heights?
Yes. We work throughout Green Township and set a time to see the trees in person before giving a written estimate.
What should I check in my wooded backyard each year?
Walk the tree line after leaf-out and again after leaf drop. Look for trees with no leaves or bark falling off, new leans, cracked soil at the base, hanging broken limbs and mushrooms on trunks. Note which trees could reach the house, garage or a neighbor's yard; those are the ones to have assessed first.
